Portrait No 26 – Chris, Chocolatier

Last week I got to visit Chris who has started her business as a chocolatier in her lovely cosy cottage kitchen in Horwich. I’d previously met Chris at a creative networking lunch when I got to sample chilli chocolate for the first time and I have to say it was delicious !

Although Chris has a background in nursing she has always had a creative flair and has enjoyed jewellery making in the past. A chance visit to a chocolatier whilst on holiday in Ireland inspired her so much, after being bought chocolate making courses as gifts she finally took the plunge and launched her business late last year.

Chris’s business is called Rivington Chocolates, you can find her website here and if you like her Facebook Page you can keep up with which fairs she will be attending & selling her delicious handmade chocolates.

Portrait No 16 – Julie, cafe owner

SONY DSC

Not only did I recently have the pleasure of meeting Julie on my recent trip to Bollington but I was also lucky enough to sample her home made scones fresh from the oven, still warm and absolutely delicious !

Julie has a passion for cooking and baking that goes back to being a small child and cooking with her Mum and Grandma. She was experimenting with cake recipes as young as seven, although she did warn me that ovaltine doesn’t make a suitable substitute for cocoa in a chocolate cake ! She bought the café almost on a whim after deciding to leave a career she was disillusioned with and has made it an amazing welcoming space with books tucked into the backs of the chairs so anyone visiting alone can have a read.

Julie’s café is in Clarence Mill in Bollington and has a wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere as well as an art wall the changes every few weeks. You can find the café on Facebook here.

Portrait No 10 – Diana, cook, baker & B&B owner.

I’ve stayed at the wonderful Tythebarn House a few times when I was on a twelve month business development course and was over the moon when Diana volunteered for my project. On the website they have a slogan “Come as guest, leave as a friend” and it couldn’t be more true !

For me this image sums up the warm welcome, home made scones & jam in front of the wood burning stove – there were days when I’d been out in the cold all day and was so glad of this to warm me through!

Diana is a very passionate baker and cook, breakfasts are fantastic and as well as home made scones there’s always home made bread too. Diana’s passion for cooking also extends to a love of sharing her food and this is at the core of Tythebarn House Bed & Breakfast.

You can see more about Tythebarn House on the website www.tastingcumbria.co.uk and Diana also has a Facebook Page where she shares all sorts of food and local related info.
